Year 6 Residential Visit to Glan Llyn

We are hoping to take pupils in Year 6 on a three day residential visit to Glan Llyn in Bala. Some year 6 pupils have previously attended the course but as it is aimed at year 6 and is a good way of meeting new friends of the same age before High School they may like to go again.The cost of the visit will be approximately £110.00 to include board, lodgings and transport. Please complete the slip at the bottom of this letter indicating whether your child would like to take part in the visit and return it to school as soon as possible.

School meal prices are as follows.
Infant Meals £1.85 - £9.25 per week
Junior Meals £1.90 - £9.50 per week
Dinner money should be paid on a Monday for any meals to be taken that week. Any meal not taken because of illness/absence from school that has already been paid for will be credited to the following week. Please send the money cash or cheques (payable to Flintshire County Council) in an envelope marked with your child’s name and the days that they wish to have a school dinner. The envelope is then to be posted in the ‘red post box’ outside the school office and not handed to the class teacher. Thank you.

Junior Pupils

School starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.15pm. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.45am. Junior pupils will have P.E. on Mondays and Fridays. Please can you ensure that your child has the correct P.E. Kit, white T-Shirt and Black Shorts with them on these days. All items to be labelled with your child’s name.

Infant Pupils

School starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.00pm for Infant children. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.45am.

P.E. for Reception and Year 1 children will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. All items of school clothing including P.E. Kit must be labelled. The P.E. Kit may be left in school in a bag on your child’s peg and taken home periodically for washing.

If any Nursery pupil is to attend Playgroup please put their name down on a daily basis on the whiteboard outside the classroom.

Snack money is 50p per week per child. You may either pay weekly or £3.50 for half term ending 20th October or £7.00 for the term ending 16th December. Please ensure that the money is sent in an envelope with your child’s name clearly marked. Thank you.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic – Infant Pupils

Our Teddy Bears Picnic will take place on Friday 1st July at 1.15pm. This fun event is open to all Infant pupils as well as the under 5’s and their Teddies! A small prize will be given to the ‘Best Dressed Teddy’. If you know of any ‘Nursery Age’ children who would be interested – please tell them about the event. Everyone is welcome. We need volunteers to help prepare picnic bags for the children from 10.00am in the morning and help in the afternoon from 1.15pm to serve tea and coffee. Monday 20th June – School Trips

Nursery through to Year 4 will be out all day on Monday at Chester Zoo. Please remember children will need to wear school uniform, sensible walking shoes, sun hat/sun cream or more likely, waterproof coat, packed lunch and drinks (no glass bottles) and a small amount of spending money (no more than £5.00 please). They will arrive back in school by 4.00pm.

Year 5 & 6 are also out for the day. They are not required to wear school uniform. They will need sensible shoes, sun hat/sun cream, waterproof coat, packed lunch and drinks. They will be back in school by 5.30/6.00pm.

With the help of parents and Mr Bellingham we are re-planning the quadrangle to provide a ‘quiet area’ where the children can go and sit should they so wish. We would like to plant various shrubs in the area. Any donations of – Hostas, Lady’s Mantle, Japanese Acer, Pots, Ferns, (shade loving plants) etc would be very much appreciated. We have already been successful in obtaining kind donations of two trees from Pottle’s Plants in Gorsedd. A big thank you to Mr Mark Pottle and Mrs Hill for all the stressful phone calls.

The Welsh Assembly have given all schools in Wales a day off in lieu for the Royal Wedding as it falls within the school Easter holidays and have confirmed two extra training days (subject to schools not closing due to snow). Wednesday 20th July is now a Bank Holiday for schools. Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July are Staff Training Days.

School, therefore, closes for the children on FRIDAY 15TH JULY 2011. This is in line with the majority of schools in the Holywell Consortium and is a different date from that originally published.

Our residential visit to Ty Gwyn on Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April is almost here. We have previously sent home a letter detailing what the children will need for their visit. We will be leaving school on the Monday morning at 9.30am and return on Friday by 3.00pm. The children will need a Packed Lunch to take with them on the Monday. Comic Relief Day

The children and staff have all had a lovely fun day in the sunshine. Year 5 & 6 children took part in a sponsored bike ride around the school and the book and cake stalls were a success. Thank you to everyone for their support and donations. Early estimate suggests that the total will be over £200. More information of the total raised will follow on Monday.

After School Club

We have now been able to secure funding from the CSIW at Flintshire County Council to start up the After School Club. We are hoping to offer an initial 2 hours per evening commencing after the Easter holidays. There will be a taster session shortly. Further details to follow. We need to have an estimate of how many children will be using the facility and on what day. Please can you complete the reply slip attached to this letter and return it to school on Monday next week. The cost of the sessions are yet to be finalised but we anticipate the cost being £3.00 for the first hour and £1.00 per half an hour thereafter. We are also looking to recruit two people to work in the club, a Supervisor who must have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and an assistant playworker. Please contact school as soon as possible for further details.

On Wednesday 16th March in the morning we will be going a walk around Caerwys to learn how to plot a route on a map. The children will be accompanied by Miss Williams, Miss Tinney and Mrs Dobbs.

Reception/Nursery Pupils

This half term our topic is ‘Out and About’ in Caerwys. We will be taking walks into the Town to look at the shops, post office and park starting with the shops/post office next week. Also, we will be visiting the Church. Further details to follow. If you have any old photographs of Caerwys, we would be pleased to see them.

The School Council is organising various events to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday 18th March. Pupils may wear their own clothes if they pay a £1.00 forfeit. Year 6 will hold a sponsored bicycle ride around the school. There will be a cake stall and children's book stall. Donations of cakes and books should be appreciated. Please remember to hold on to any unwanted clothes, bedding, etc, for our Bags2School collection on Wednesday 6th April. Please ask your family, friends and neighbours to collect for us. If you do not have enough blue bags, bin bags may be used. All money raised will be used to buy much needed resources for the school.

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March

The School Council wish to hold a competition on Thursday 3rd March to recognise World Book Day. Children may bring their favourite book to school and dress up as a character from the book. There will be a prize for the best dressed pupil.

Dydd Gwyl Dewi / St David's Day

On Tuesday 1st March we shall be celebrating St David's Day with our Eisteddfod from 1.15 pm to 2.45 pm. the children will be singing, dancing, playing instruments and reciting poetry. Traditional Welsh costume or a Welsh football/rugby top may be worn. All are welcome to join us.

Churchyardigans

Valentine Party
